Bikmo: review summary
RideIn’s assessment: The five-product range makes it possible to compare theft-focused protection against broader cover. The important trade-offs are the selected benefits, strict locking conditions and whether a claim is settled through a replacement partner or in cash.

Who is Bikmo and who provides the insurance?
Bikmo is a specialist bicycle insurance business. Companies House records Bikmo Limited as an active private company incorporated in July 2014, with a registered office in Deeside, Wales. Its support site publishes FCA reference 745230. These identifiers help distinguish the business from similarly named firms; incorporation itself does not establish policy suitability or claims quality.
Bikmo’s scheme information names Hiscox as underwriter. Match the insurer and the legal-expenses provider in the current wording and schedule rather than relying on a brand name alone. The company arranging and managing a policy can be different from the insurer responsible for paying an insured loss.

CLIK, CLIK+, GO, PLUS and RACE: what changes?
The key decision is whether you want protection for a stolen bicycle only, crash damage too, or benefits relating to the rider and other people. Bikmo’s product guide sets out five options. The table below summarises the main distinction; benefit limits and exceptions still belong to the quoted contract.
Start with the loss you could not comfortably absorb. A commuter with existing liability protection may compare CLIK with GO, while an event rider needs to examine the applicable competition provisions. Do not assume that a product name or a general reference to events accepts every racing discipline.
| Product | Core distinction to compare |
|---|---|
| CLIK | Theft-focused protection |
| CLIK+ | Theft plus personal accident and public liability |
| GO | Theft plus accidental damage |
| PLUS | Theft, accidental damage, personal accident and public liability |
| RACE | Broader cover including competitive road, criterium and circuit racing |
Travel, accessories and additional benefits
Bikmo’s product summary lists worldwide cover across its range, alongside accessory and clothing allowances, legal expenses, replacement hire and help getting home. This describes available insured benefits, not an unrestricted promise to pay for any loss. Check which incident triggers each benefit and whether one limit is shared by several items.
A bicycle policy and medical travel insurance answer different questions. Before transporting a bike abroad, check airline packing requirements, loss in transit, unattended storage and trip restrictions. For a custom road bike, list upgraded wheels and other expensive components under the correct insured category instead of assuming that a standard accessory allowance is enough.
- Obtain the limit for one bicycle and the total collection.
- Ask how spare wheels, helmets, clothing and GPS equipment are treated.
- Confirm the event discipline, rider status and travel itinerary.
- Check the claim conditions for recovery and replacement hire.
Bikmo lock requirements and home storage
Bikmo’s current locking guide says policies purchased on or after 1 July 2025 require a Sold Secure Gold or Diamond lock regardless of bicycle value. Older policies use a different value-based table. When leaving the bicycle unattended away from home, the main frame must be secured to an immovable object. The guide normally applies a 24-hour unattended limit, with specified location exceptions.
Private homes, exclusive sheds or garages, shared hallways and bike hangars have different rules. A locked communal entrance does not remove the need to lock the bicycle itself as specified. Check the exact location category, keep the lock receipt and record its model. An accessory cable supplied with a rated D-lock does not automatically share the D-lock’s rating.

Cost, claim excess and the replacement option
Compare a quote using the complete replacement value, chosen product and the same cover dates as your alternatives. A premium without the settlement terms leaves part of the financial comparison unanswered. Also check any instalment cost and cancellation or renewal terms before selecting monthly payments.
Bikmo’s excess guide describes £40 for claims under £400 and 10% for claims above £400, while directing customers to their schedule for the exact amount. It also describes waiving the excess when an accepted replacement is arranged through a participating shop, provided the equipment is not underinsured. Ask how a claim of exactly £400 is handled and what applies if you want cash or a different supplier. A replacement waiver should not be read as a promise that every settlement is excess-free.

Electric bikes, commuting and unusual use
Bikmo publishes a separate e-bike eligibility guide: the electric bicycle must be legal to ride on UK roads without motor-vehicle insurance, tax or a driving licence. A modified or derestricted bicycle needs particular attention. Obtain written confirmation about a conversion, throttle or unusual specification before assuming it qualifies.
Commuting appears in Bikmo’s general product summary. Paid delivery, professional riding, hire or commercial activity should be described explicitly and checked against the policy offered. An ordinary commute and using a bicycle to earn delivery fees create different insurance requirements.

How to make a Bikmo bicycle insurance claim
Bikmo directs customers to start a claim through their dashboard and provide incident details, photos and ownership evidence. Prepare the frame number, purchase records, upgrades, lock details and any police reference for a theft. Preserve damaged equipment and obtain instructions before authorising a repair or disposing of parts.
Keep a copy of the submission and subsequent requests. A published processing target is not a guaranteed completion date: investigation, replacement availability and the evidence supplied can affect the outcome. If a decision appears wrong, ask which policy clause is being applied and use the formal complaints procedure in your documents.
Who should compare Bikmo, and what are the drawbacks?
Bikmo is worth including in a comparison when you want a clear separation between theft-only, damage and racing protection. Its security requirements make practical storage a decisive question: a policy is less useful if you cannot meet its conditions at your workplace or shared building.
Compare the final product against Laka’s monthly model, Cycleplan’s selected options and Yellow Jersey’s tiered cover. Also request the bicycle terms from your home insurer. Our assessment uses published documents and practical comparisons; we have not bought the product, submitted a test claim or independently verified customer-service performance.
Bikmo bicycle insurance: common questions
Does every Bikmo policy include accidental damage?
No. The published product guide separates theft-focused CLIK and CLIK+ from GO, PLUS and RACE, which include accidental damage. Check the product named on your quote.
Is Bikmo bicycle insurance excess-free?
A replacement through a participating shop may qualify for an excess waiver under the published conditions. Cash and other settlements can involve an excess. Your schedule and settlement agreement control the amount.
Can I use a cheaper lock for a low-value bicycle?
For policies purchased on or after 1 July 2025, Bikmo’s locking guide requires Sold Secure Gold or Diamond regardless of bicycle value. Older contracts have different rules.
