Ping Insure: review summary

RideIn’s assessment: Include Ping only after obtaining its current wording and completed selections. Publicly available older documents have different regulatory details from the current website, so this review does not present those historic terms as a new-contract guarantee.

Who is Ping Insure?

The current cycle page identifies Ping Insure Limited and publishes FCA reference 1039220. Older PDFs use a different representative arrangement and reference. That difference is a reason to obtain current documents, not evidence by itself of a problem with the business.

Use the FCA service to match the legal firm, current permissions and contact details. Ask the provider to identify the intermediary, insurer and claims administrator for the actual quote. A current brand page cannot establish that every clause in an older downloadable contract remains unchanged.

Bicycle protection and selected benefits

Ping advertises theft and accidental or malicious damage, with a stated individual bicycle ceiling of £15,000. The cycle page also describes liability, personal accident, accessories, hire, recovery, legal expenses, worldwide use and competition benefits, depending on selected cover.

Treat those as available features rather than the automatic contents of the lowest quote. Make a list of required losses and check each selection against the schedule. The historic schedule usefully illustrates why a selectable-option policy needs that final confirmation, although its figures should not be applied to a new contract.

For a commuter, recovery and temporary replacement transport can matter alongside the bicycle value. Ask which event triggers assistance and whether you must obtain approval before spending your own money.

The document checks that matter most

Ask for the current policy wording, product summary, terms of business and a specimen schedule before paying. Check their version dates, the insurer’s name, the excess for each section and any endorsements. Keep the files issued with your completed quote.

The older wording includes purchase-source eligibility, age-related valuation and security provisions. They show why those questions matter, but we have not established that those historic clauses are the conditions of a policy sold today. Do not infer a current lock rating or excess from an old PDF.

A useful question is: “Is my particular bicycle, bought from this seller on this date, covered on this settlement basis?” That is more precise than asking whether Ping covers second-hand bikes generally.

Storage, e-bikes and ownership evidence

Give the provider your actual storage arrangement: private home, shed, communal room, public rack or vehicle. Request the accepted lock standard, locking method, unattended-time rules and evidence requirements for each. If your usual rack does not permit the required method, the premium alone is a poor basis for selection.

For an electric bicycle, identify the motor, assisted speed, throttle and any conversion or modification. Obtain confirmation that it meets the current policy definition. Keep ownership records, photographs and the frame number; an accepted bike type does not remove the need to establish ownership after a theft.

Holidays, races and claims

The current product page advertises an overseas extension of up to 45 days and competition cover as a selectable benefit. Establish whether that travel allowance is per trip or aggregate and ask which race disciplines and rider status are accepted.

Check bicycle damage and third-party liability abroad separately. Also ask what protection applies while a carrier has the bike and whether medical costs need another policy. Before travelling, save the current claims contacts, notification deadline and the evidence required after airline damage or theft.

Our assessment and alternatives

Ping merits inclusion as a current quote route, but this review’s evidence limit is material: the new-contract wording needs confirmation. We do not award a claims-service rating or assume current benefit limits from historic paperwork.

Compare the completed offer against Cycleplan, Sundays and Cycler using the same value, use, start date, excess and travel dates. If the provider cannot supply wording that matches the quote, delay the comparison decision until that gap is resolved. A detailed contract is more useful than a longer marketing benefit list.

Ping Insure bicycle insurance: common questions

What is Ping’s maximum bicycle value?

The current cycle page advertises up to £15,000 per bicycle. Eligibility and the final insured amount depend on the quote.

Does every Ping policy include travel or racing?

The product page describes these as extensions or selected benefits. Confirm both on the completed schedule.

Can I use the old public PDF to choose a lock?

Obtain current wording first. Historic documents contain different regulatory details and may not describe the new policy being offered.
