UK bicycle insurance providers: where to start
This is an editorial directory of four selected providers with public UK bicycle insurance information, checked on 17 October 2026. It is not an exhaustive market list, a personal recommendation or a ranking of claims service. The companies appear alphabetically; inclusion does not mean a provider has assessed your requirements or agreed to insure you.
| Provider | Product approach | Where to read more |
|---|---|---|
| Bikmo review | Five products separate theft, bicycle damage, personal protection and licensed racing. | Bikmo product information |
| Cycleplan review | Selectable cover and additional benefits. | Cycleplan product information |
| Laka review | Core and Complete cover with collective monthly pricing; licensed racing and worldwide travel are an add-on to Complete. | Laka product information |
| Yellow Jersey review | Three tiers with different event and travel scope. | Yellow Jersey product information |
“Insurance company” is a useful search term, but the brand selling or arranging the cover is not always the legal insurer carrying the risk. Check the insurer, intermediary and claims handler in the documents supplied with the quote.

Bikmo: choose the level of protection
Bikmo's current product summary lists five products. CLIK is theft-only; CLIK+ adds personal accident and public liability; GO adds accidental damage instead; PLUS combines theft, damage and those rider benefits; and RACE adds competitive road, criterium and circuit racing cover.
The useful question is which level covers your particular losses. Someone primarily concerned about a stolen commuter bike should check a different set of benefits from someone wanting crash damage, injury benefits and racing protection.
- Ask for the excess on theft and damage separately.
- Confirm how upgraded components and equipment are valued.
- Check the exact locking and home-storage rules.
- Read the event and travel terms for the product quoted.

Cycleplan: compare the options selected in the quote
Cycleplan lists bicycle theft and damage protection alongside optional benefits such as liability, personal accident, loss of earnings and competitive use. Its travel options include European and worldwide bicycle cover. A list of benefits available to buy should not be read as confirmation that every benefit is selected.
Its public product information identifies restrictions including trade or business use other than commuting and public liability for riders under 16. Those are particularly relevant questions for delivery riders or families. Use the full wording for the precise scope.
The important documents page distinguishes policy versions by inception and renewal date. Match the document to the new quote rather than relying on wording from an older policy.

Laka: understand the monthly price and cap
Laka uses a collective model with variable monthly charges and a personal monthly maximum. Core includes theft and third-party cycling liability; Complete adds crash and accidental damage plus roadside-recovery expenses. Laka advertises no excess and no depreciation on bicycle claims, subject to the contract.
The main comparison task is to distinguish an expected monthly payment from the cap. Multiplying one low month by twelve does not produce a guaranteed annual premium. Check what can change at renewal or when you change your insured equipment.
- Compare both the expected charge and the monthly ceiling.
- For licensed racing or worldwide property cover, check the add-on to Complete, its 120-day trip limit and lock-in.
- Do not confuse third-party liability with the separate Health & Recovery product.
- Keep the required photographs and other ownership evidence.

Yellow Jersey: match the tier to trips and events
Yellow Jersey groups bicycle cover into Essentials, Performance and Ultimate. Its current FAQ says Essentials does not cover the bicycle abroad, Performance covers it in Europe for trips up to 30 days, and Ultimate worldwide for trips up to 120 days. Event benefits and liability territory still depend on the tier and terms.
That makes the precise itinerary and event important. A short European training trip, a UK sportive and an overseas race are different requirements. Compare your route, dates and discipline against the tier rather than paying for a name that sounds more comprehensive.
- Check the limit for each bike and the entire policy.
- Confirm event eligibility and any transition-area cover.
- Review transport and unattended-bike conditions.
- Arrange suitable medical travel protection where needed.

Other places to check: home insurance and cycling memberships
The first useful comparison may be with the insurer you already pay. Ask whether your home policy names the bicycle, what maximum applies and which away-from-home losses are covered. Obtain the full additional cost and excess, rather than assuming either home cover or a specialist policy must be cheaper.
For liability protection, review cycling membership benefits as well. Cycling UK explains its membership liability cover and the separate route to bicycle insurance. Check who qualifies, which rides are covered and whether the bike itself is protected before treating a membership as a replacement for a specialist policy.
Read our home versus specialist insurance guide and cyclist liability guide alongside any specialist quote.
How to check the firm behind a bicycle insurance brand
Read the legal information in the provider's terms of business and policy. Identify the business arranging the policy, the underwriter responsible for the insured risk and the organisation handling claims. A familiar marketing name alone does not answer those questions.
Use the FCA Firm Checker to check whether a firm has the appropriate authorisation and to compare the contact details. Follow the FCA's guidance if a business's role or permissions are unclear. Be wary of relying on a registration number copied onto an unfamiliar website without matching the firm and contact information.
This directory does not award regulatory approval to the listed products. It also does not assess the likely outcome of a future claim; that depends on the contract and incident.
The documents worth checking before you buy
| Document | Look for | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Quote summary | Bicycle value, cover selections, total payment and excess. | This is the offer for your inputs, rather than the widest advertised product range. |
| IPID or product summary | Main benefits, exclusions and restrictions. | A quick way to find issues that need checking in the full contract. |
| Policy wording | Definitions, insured events, exclusions, security and claim rules. | Terms such as unattended, racing and accessories can have specific meanings. |
| Schedule | Named insured, bicycles, limits, dates and endorsements. | It records the cover and special conditions that apply to your policy. |
| Terms of business | Intermediary role, fees, cancellation and complaints contacts. | It explains the service and who to contact when something goes wrong. |
Ask for written clarification if your storage, ownership or riding situation does not fit the available questions. For example, describe a shared bike cage accurately rather than choosing a private-garage answer because it seems closest.

How to turn the directory into a useful shortlist
First decide the losses you need covered using our guide to insuring a bicycle. Next, check whether each provider accepts the bike and use. Remove unsuitable products before comparing premiums; a cheap quote for the wrong activity is not a meaningful alternative.
Then use the bicycle insurance comparison panel to compare the relevant features and obtain prices from the providers. Keep the same input details for each quote. If no listed product fits, ask a suitable insurance intermediary about the requirement rather than forcing your circumstances into a standard consumer policy.
