Nova Direct: review summary
RideIn’s assessment: A quote may be relevant when your priority is bicycle theft and damage rather than a broad rider package. Compare eligibility, early-policy restrictions and settlement value before considering the advertised starting price.

Who arranges Nova Direct bicycle insurance?
Nova Direct is a trading name of Policy Excess Insure Ltd. Its May 2025 wording identifies Financial & Legal Insurance Company Limited as underwriter and The Claims Manager, a Bumble Bee Essex trading name, as claims handler. Check those parties on the policy offered to you.
The main bicycle page advertises a starting premium, not a universal quote. Bicycle value, eligibility and the contract selected matter more than comparing one introductory figure with a personally quoted price from another provider.

A property policy with important rider-cover exclusions
The May 2025 product summary describes theft and accidental-damage protection, with an accessories option. It expressly excludes personal accident and public liability. Someone wanting compensation for a serious injury or cover for damage caused to others needs to address those needs separately.
There is a document discrepancy to resolve: the product summary excludes malicious damage, while the wording’s accidental-damage definition mentions it. Ask the provider which position applies and obtain written clarification. This review does not assume the more generous description will govern a future claim.
A narrow policy can still fit a cyclist who already has suitable liability protection elsewhere. Compare the combined annual cost and remaining gaps, rather than assuming more headings always provide better value.

Purchase source and early-policy requirements
The summary restricts eligible purchases to specified new or refurbished sources, including a manufacturer or a VAT-registered UK business with a verifiable 12-month warranty. A privately purchased used bicycle therefore needs particular scrutiny before you attempt to insure it.
It also requires photographs within seven days of the start date and lists a first-14-days restriction for claims, except renewal. Read the precise current terms before using it as replacement cover for an expiring policy or a newly bought bicycle.
Prepare photographs, serial number, purchase invoice and warranty details in advance. If a marketplace seller is a business, do not infer eligibility merely from a shop-style username; ask which purchase documents the insurer will accept.
Approved locks, storage and claim excess
The May 2025 wording defines a £50 excess and an approved lock of Sold Secure Silver or above. The complete security and unattended-storage conditions still need to fit your home, workplace and public-rack routine.
Ask how the contract treats a bicycle left at a station, a borrowed storage location or a parked vehicle. A lock satisfying the rating is only one condition. Retain the lock receipt and photograph how the frame is secured so you can identify practical gaps before relying on cover.
For a financed bicycle, ask who receives a total-loss payment and whether the finance agreement changes the settlement route. Insurance does not automatically extinguish the remaining borrowing.

Overseas riding and settlement
The product summary extends bicycle protection worldwide for up to 90 days in a 12-month period. That is an aggregate allowance. Check intended trips and activities against the wording; overseas property protection does not establish that racing, medical bills or liability are insured.
The summary describes replacement with an equivalent age and value rather than an unrestricted brand-new upgrade. A cheaper premium can be less attractive if your principal aim is replacement of an older bicycle with a new current model. Compare the expected settlement basis alongside the excess.
Customer service, claims and our assessment
Nova Direct’s current customer-service page directs enquiries through online channels, email and live chat and says it does not operate a customer-service telephone number. The policy has separate claim instructions. Save the relevant route and any incident-notification deadline before travelling.
We would compare this product with theft or property-focused options from other providers using the same accepted bicycle, period and protection needs. We have not tested its service. Eligibility and document inconsistencies need answers before price can be judged meaningfully.
