Checks before buying
Start with the regular load and route, then check the closure, carrying system and internal organisation. A larger bag is not automatically more useful if it encourages an uncomfortable load.
- A DWR treatment helps water bead from fabric but does not make seams and openings watertight.
- The Metron's deployable stabiliser strap is particularly useful on a bike; test its fit on both shoulders before loading the bag.
- A rain cover protects the exposed bag but can make pockets slower to reach and must be fitted before the downpour.
Protecting the contents in real rain
No. The Daylite uses DWR-treated fabric and the Metron 18 is described as weather-resistant with a separate high-visibility rain cover. Put electronics in an internal dry bag during sustained rain.
Waterproofing depends on correct use. Fold or roll the closure as instructed, keep grit away from the coating, and inspect seams and high-flex areas. Use a separate dry pouch for a laptop, medication or anything that cannot tolerate a single leak.
