EKX X20 review

EKX X20 specification-based review: 48V 35Ah battery, 1,000W rated motor, fat tyres and conflicting weight figures.

Product evidence checked 7 October 2026

Our assessment

The X20 combines a nominal 1,680Wh battery with a 1,000W rated motor and 20-inch fat tyres. Its product page gives both 41kg and 42kg weight figures; neither is a convenient carry for a train or staircase.

What stands out

  • Published battery information: 48V 35Ah (1680Wh) Lithium Battery
  • Model-specific source and weight evidence: 42kg (93 lbs)

Limitations and unknowns

  • The reviewed power or speed claims fall outside ordinary British EAPC assumptions.
  • Catalogue range and performance have not been independently measured.
  • The supplied regional configuration and proprietary spare-parts support need written confirmation.

Configuration and handling

The X20 page lists 1,000W rated and 2,000W peak output, 31mph maximum speed and front and rear suspension. Those figures describe a high-power pedal-equipped machine, rather than an ordinary British EAPC. Hydraulic brakes are listed, but their stopping performance has not been measured.

The 41kg versus 42kg discrepancy needs a written answer for the exact supplied version. Plan storage at ground level, verify the rack and total load ratings, and inspect the tyre markings before ordering replacement tubes or tyres.

Battery, range and support

The 48V 35Ah battery corresponds to 1,680Wh nominal energy. EKX advertises 65–108 miles of range, without a route-specific test that demonstrates the figure for your load, speed or temperature. Budget a reserve and ask for a separate replacement-pack and charger quotation.

The manufacturer describes US and Canadian warehouse shipping; confirm the offered delivery destination. British availability, importer responsibility and warranty service therefore need separate confirmation. The X20 and X21 share several listed figures, but that does not establish interchangeable controllers, battery housings or frame fittings.

British road-use assessment

The X20’s 1,000W continuous rating exceeds the ordinary 250W EAPC ceiling in Great Britain. A restriction setting does not prove an approved motor-vehicle configuration. Check the vehicle category and permitted riding location before buying it for a commute or cycle path.
