What matters in the UK
A qualifying EAPC can use roads and cycle facilities where ordinary cycles are permitted in Great Britain, but not pavements. Local access restrictions and rail-operator policies still apply.
For ordinary public-road treatment in Great Britain, confirm usable pedals, no more than 250W continuous rated motor power and assistance that cuts out by 15.5mph. A category name, peak-power claim or selectable speed limit is not proof of compliance.

Choose around the use case
A flat urban commute
A light hub-motor bike can feel natural and remain manageable on stairs. Single-speed designs are clean and simple, but only if the route does not need a lower climbing gear.
A hilly or loaded route
Mechanical gearing and a well-supported mid-drive can matter more than a headline range. Test a restart on the steepest regular gradient with luggage fitted.
Year-round British weather
Full mudguards, dependable lights, puncture-resistant tyres and serviceable brakes have more daily value than an app feature. Check corrosion protection and connector care.
Train plus bike
Measure the folded or complete bike and practise lifting it. Operators set their own cycle reservations and restrictions, so a folding hinge does not guarantee acceptance.
