Origins, headquarters and legal entities

Tenways says it is headquartered in the Netherlands and describes its first e-bike as the result of a successful crowdfunding campaign. Independent reporting has described the business as Chinese-origin and Amsterdam-headquartered, while the company presents its manufacturing and supply chain as a vertically integrated global operation.

The brand’s public story centres on relatively light, clean-looking urban bikes before expanding into step-through, trekking, compact and higher-torque mid-drive models. Road.cc dates the brand’s emergence to its Netherlands-based crowdfunding launch.

The UK sales terms identify the contracting entity as Tenways Sport UK Limited, company number 14703336, and print a Great Portland Street address. Companies House currently lists the same active company number at Office 416, 19–21 Crawford Street, London W1H 1PJ, so the public records and sales page are not fully synchronised.

Sales in the EU, European Economic Area and Switzerland are handled by Tenways Technovation Europe B.V. at Kabelweg 57, 1014 BA Amsterdam, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under number 85385115. The relevant seller and consumer terms depend on the regional storefront used, so UK buyers should use the UK site and retain their order confirmation, serial number and invoice.

How the Tenways range is organised

The CGO family contains lighter rear-hub-motor city bikes. A lower number does not automatically mean a lesser bike: CGO600 models favour a conventional diamond frame and lower weight, CGO800 models use an accessible step-through shape, CGO009 emphasises design and connected features, and CGO Compact prioritises narrow storage.

AGO models are heavier, more powerful trekking and comfort bikes with mid-drive motors. AGO X is the SUV-style all-rounder, AGO T combines belt drive with Enviolo stepless gearing, AGO Air offers a chain-or-belt choice, and AGO Performance uses the Bosch motor and battery ecosystem.

Tenways often combines variants under one product selector. A CGO600 Pro and CGO600 Plus are not cosmetic trims: one uses a single-speed belt and the other an eight-speed chain, so RideIn treats them as separate reviews.

Where Tenways operates and how it retails in the UK

The company sells directly through its regional websites and also points buyers to physical dealers and service partners through a UK store locator. Its homepage promotes a global footprint of more than 1,200 dealer shops and more than 200 service centres; those are worldwide marketing totals, not a promise that every UK town has a participating workshop.

Use the live locator and contact the named shop before travelling, especially if a test ride, assembly, warranty diagnosis or a specific frame size is needed. Dealer stock and after-sales responsibility can differ from a direct web order.

The UK shipping policy says the UK shop ships only to UK addresses, with free e-bike delivery and a typical delivery estimate of five to seven business days. The homepage sometimes advertises faster headline delivery, so the dedicated shipping policy is the safer planning source; Tenways also reserves a longer period in its terms for exceptional circumstances.

Returns, warranty and service

The published UK returns policy gives consumers 14 days to decide to return an eligible purchase and a further 14 days to send it after making the request. For a change-of-mind return, the bike generally needs to remain unused and in its original packaging, and the customer may be responsible for return costs; damaged or faulty deliveries follow different rights and procedures.

Tenways’ warranty table lists five years for the frame and rigid fork, and generally two years for the motor, battery, controller, display and many other non-consumable parts. Some braking and mechanical parts have a shorter stated period, while tyres, pads, belts, chains and other wear items have limited or no defect coverage once normal wear is involved.

The battery wording deserves attention. Tenways says a reduction to 60% or less of original capacity after 500 full charge cycles or two years, whichever comes first, can be treated as normal degradation rather than a defect; accidental damage, incorrect charging, water ingress and unauthorised modification can also affect coverage.

Warranty length is only part of ownership. Ask who pays diagnostic labour, how a heavy bike is transported to a service point, whether the local shop will work on a direct purchase, and how long proprietary battery, display and controller spares are expected to remain available.

Cycle to Work purchasing

Tenways’ UK site currently describes a partnership with DASH for Cycle to Work purchases and advertises potential tax savings of up to 47% with salary deductions over twelve months. The actual benefit depends on salary, tax band, employer scheme rules, certificate limit and ownership arrangement, so the headline percentage is not universal.

Confirm the final package before applying for a certificate, including the bike, lock, helmet, delivery and any dealer assembly. Scheme orders can have different cancellation and refund mechanics from an ordinary card purchase.

What to check before choosing Tenways

Start with the steepest regular hill and the bike’s mechanical gearing. A quiet single-speed belt is excellent on a flat commute, but it cannot provide the low ratio of a geared drivetrain; stronger mid-drives and larger batteries also add weight that may be unacceptable on stairs.

Check the exact variant, not only the family name. Battery capacity, motor supplier, load limits, drivetrain and even brake brand can differ between editions or colours, while accessories contribute to the permissible total mass.

  • Take a test ride that includes gradients, starts, turns and controlled hard braking.
  • Confirm the frame size, reach and control access rather than relying on height alone.
  • Ask the selling party who handles assembly, firmware, diagnostics and warranty labour.
  • Check battery watt-hours, charger approval, replacement cost and safe indoor storage.
  • Budget for an independently rated lock and insure the bike if loss would be difficult to absorb.
  • Read the individual RideIn review for model-specific strengths, disadvantages and independent commentary.
