Reported bicycle thefts near a postcode
The police API returns anonymised street-level records around the postcode coordinates. Leave month blank for the API’s latest available month.
How to interpret a result
A returned count means the API supplied that many police-recorded bicycle-theft records for the query area and month. It is not the number of bicycles actually stolen, a rate per resident or cyclist, or proof that the displayed street is the exact location.
Street-level crime locations are anonymised. Police recording, victim reporting, geographic coverage and publication lag all affect the output. Comparisons between places need a suitable denominator and consistent period; this tool deliberately does not manufacture a risk score.
Use the result to improve security
Record the frame number and proof of purchase, lock the frame to an immovable object and follow the exact lock standard named by an insurer. A local count can prompt better precautions, but it should not replace an assessment of the actual parking location, time, visibility and locking method.
