Is Monarc a genuinely new brand?

Yes. Monarc announced its first model, the Marker adventure e-bike, on 2 June 2026. Independent launch coverage published the same day described Monarc as a newly launched company rather than a renamed model range. The Tracer followed three weeks later as the brand’s second model.

This matters because “new bike brand” is often used loosely. A company entering a different country, reviving an old name or launching a new model is not a new brand. Monarc passes the stricter test: a new name, a new company identity and a first product launch, supported by both primary and independent evidence.

Who is behind Monarc?

Monarc presents Julia Moran and Ryan Callahan as its founding product leaders. Independent reporting identifies both as former senior Lectric eBikes staff and confirms that Lectric supplies financial, operational and supply-chain backing.

The legal warranty document names Lectric eBikes LLC, trading as Monarc Bikes. That makes Monarc a separate customer-facing brand with substantial support behind it, rather than an anonymous marketplace label. It does not, however, create UK distribution or UK consumer support.

Marker and Tracer compared

The initial range uses one high-output electrical platform in two formats. The figures below are manufacturer specifications and range claims, not RideIn test results.

Both families are offered in step-over and step-through forms. The Marker uses wider off-road-oriented tyres; the Tracer uses 27.5 × 2.2in tyres and a more urban brief. Claimed maximum distance depends on assistance, rider, terrain, temperature and how the two batteries are used.

Can you buy Monarc in the UK?

RideIn could not verify an official UK shop, UK distributor, GBP checkout, UK-specific warranty or an exact Monarc bicycle sold on Amazon UK. The manufacturer’s warranty expressly covers owners in the continental United States or Canada.

That makes this an information page, not a buying recommendation. A third-party import would leave the buyer responsible for shipping, duties, charger compatibility, returns, replacement batteries, software access and any local servicing. It would also not solve the road-legality problem.

UK legal position

Monarc lists a 750W nominal motor, a 28mph maximum assisted speed and Class 1, 2 and 3 modes, with Class 2 as the default. Those are North American categories. They do not demonstrate compliance with Great Britain’s electrically assisted pedal cycle rules.

A qualifying EAPC in Great Britain is limited to 250W maximum continuous rated motor power and assistance must cut off by 15.5mph. Throttle operation is also restricted. On the published specification, UK readers should not treat a Marker or Tracer as an ordinary road-legal pedal cycle.

A higher-powered machine may fall into motor-vehicle rules involving type approval, registration, tax, insurance, licensing and an approved helmet. Reconfiguring a display setting is not, by itself, proof that a bicycle meets all applicable requirements.

Support and ownership checks

For buyers in supported North American markets, the practical strengths are substantial battery capacity, named drivetrain and motor components, hydraulic four-piston braking and a published support structure. Independent reviews are useful for ride impressions, but the brand remains young and long-term parts experience is necessarily limited.

• Confirm the warranty territory and the party responsible for labour.
• Check the exact continuous motor rating and legally permitted modes where the bike will be used.
• Ask for replacement-battery, controller, display and charger prices.
• Verify that the app and connected features operate in the buyer’s country.
• Treat maximum-range figures as controlled claims, not guaranteed journey distances.
• Use only the approved charger and follow current battery-safety guidance.
