Roadside flat tyreThere are all kinds of bicycle insurance products on the market, some protecting bikes themselves and other insuring the rider from liability in the case of an accident. As you want to insure bicycle gear it may require a unique policy as some of the gear might not be part of the bike and stored in different location i.e. not with the bike.

Listed below are the main types of insurance available. Bicycle insurance and public liability insurance are often sold together as a complete package.

Cycle insurance part of home contents policy

Insure you bicycle as an extra on your existing home insurance policy. Often a very cost effective way to get your bike covered.

Personal bicycle insurance

A specialist policy to cover your bike against theft, vandalism  and accidental damage

Public liability insurance

Like third party insurance for your car, this protects you against any claims for injury or damage to property, should you accidentally injure someone or damage property on your bike

Roadside recovery

The equivalent of the AA for bicycles although don’t bother trying to get bicycle insurance for roadside assistance from the AA, they only cover bikes on their home insurance policies. This insurance will make sure you are never stranded by the roadside unable to fix your bike. They usually offer free cycle hire whilst your’s is at the workshop.

Competition insurance

Specialist insurance for those who take part in competitive events such as racing and triathlons.
