This review is based on the Evans specification, manufacturer information and clearly identified independent coverage; it is not presented as a RideIn hands-on test.

Motor, controls and UK legality
Evans lists TQ-HPR50, 50 Nm, 250 W maximum continuous rated power.. The controls are described as TQ LED display with Bluetooth & ANT+ connectivity.
The HPR50’s 50Nm output is intentionally restrained beside modern 85Nm-plus e-MTB systems. Its compactness and progressive response are more relevant here than maximum climbing speed.
This motor rewards cadence and rider contribution, making it a poor fit for someone expecting a self-shuttle feel. It remains a distinct proposition from the newer HPR60 Fuel+ EX models below.
For use as an electrically assisted pedal cycle in Great Britain, the maximum continuous rated motor power must not exceed 250W, assistance must cut out by 15.5mph and the pedals must be able to propel the bike. Check the label and delivered configuration rather than relying on a category name.

A 360Wh battery helps contain system weight but provides much less energy than the newer Fuel+ EX 580Wh pack. High assist on steep, soft ground will expose that difference quickly.
A range extender can add flexibility, though it occupies space and adds cost. Real trail range depends heavily on vertical gain, surface, rider input and mode choice.
Use only the approved compatible charger, charge away from escape routes and stop using a battery that is damaged, swollen, leaking or unusually hot. Ask for the replacement-pack price and warranty conditions before the original battery becomes a problem.

The aluminium chassis is not the lightest EXe, but its geometry and modest drive system aim to retain responsive, line-changing handling. Four-piston brakes support steeper use.

Shimano XT 12-speed shifting is a durable performance choice, although the complete build includes mixed-level components rather than an all-XT ensemble.
The smaller battery is easier to live with only if local loops fit its capacity. Riders planning remote terrain should account for charging, range extension and TQ service availability.

Evans listed this build at £3,299 when RideIn checked it on 29 August 2026. Prices can differ by colour or size, and stock can change; a discount against a reference price does not by itself establish value.
Evans and Trek support the exact chassis, HPR50 system and component specification.
Pinkbike’s independent article is a first look at the alloy Fuel EXe range, not a long-term review. It confirms the build context but does not justify unqualified durability or range claims.

Advantages and disadvantages
The useful comparison is whether the complete build suits the regular route, storage and service plan. A premium motor cannot compensate for poor fit, while a modest component can be entirely sensible on the right type of bike.

Ask which Evans branch or authorised dealer will handle electrical diagnosis, warranty labour and replacement components, then test the brakes, controls and fit before committing to regular use.
Still compelling for riders who want an e-MTB that asks them to ride, but the newer HPR60/580Wh Fuel+ range is the better fit for longer or more assisted days.
