The clearest match is new, returning or utility-focused riders wanting a confidence-friendly commuter that can also handle park tracks and rough urban surfaces. This review is based on the Evans specification, manufacturer information and clearly identified independent coverage; it is not presented as a RideIn hands-on test.

The Ananda R201 rear hub is rated at 250W and 42Nm, giving more quoted torque than Falcon's similarly priced urban hybrids. It should handle ordinary gradients competently, though a hub motor cannot use the seven-speed gears to multiply assistance on the steepest climbs.

Road.cc's independent test found the assistance smooth and sufficient for medium hills, while very steep gradients exposed the narrow mechanical gearing. That is a useful, model-specific limitation rather than a generic criticism of hub drives.

For use as an electrically assisted pedal cycle in Great Britain, the maximum continuous rated motor power must not exceed 250W, assistance must cut out by 15.5mph and the pedals must be able to propel the bike. Check the label and delivered configuration rather than relying on a category name.

Battery, charging and realistic range

The listed battery is XH, Ellese mini, 417 Wh, 36 V.. Realistic range 30 miles.

Pinnacle specifies 417Wh, an eight-hour full charge and roughly four hours from 20% to 80%, with Evans framing 30 miles as a realistic range. The independent test estimated around 40 miles on a relatively flat, unsealed route, showing how strongly conditions alter results.

The pack is adequate for routine commuting but not unusually large, and the slower quoted full charge rewards regular partial charging. Buyers should confirm whether removal is possible and how replacement batteries are supported, as the captured listing is not explicit on those points.

Use only the approved compatible charger, charge away from escape routes and stop using a battery that is damaged, swollen, leaking or unusually hot. Ask for the replacement-pack price and warranty conditions before the original battery becomes a problem.

Frame, fit and ride character

The frame specification is 6061 alloy, internal cable routing, mud guard, rack mounts.. Fork and suspension details are 100mm suspension fork with lockout, mud guard mounts, QR. The tyres are Kenda K1293, 27.5 x 2.4" high volume..

A 100mm lockout fork and 27.5x2.4 tyres prioritise comfort and confidence over fast road efficiency. Road.cc praised the broad tyres and hydraulic brakes, while measuring the bike at a substantial 25.2kg.

Seven-speed Tourney gearing with a 14–28-tooth range is the clearest performance constraint for very steep climbs. For city streets, canal paths and light tracks, the low-step chassis and controlled braking form a more rounded package than the component price might suggest.

Brakes, transmission and everyday equipment

The bike's weight affects stairs, car racks and unassisted pedalling. Road.cc also experienced an initial display failure that a dealer replaced; one fault does not establish unreliability, but it demonstrates the value of accessible warranty support.

What the published evidence tells us

Evans listed this build at £999 when RideIn checked it on 29 August 2026. Prices can differ by colour or size, and stock can change; a discount against a reference price does not by itself establish value.

This model benefits from a detailed exact-bike independent review, allowing supplier claims to be checked against real riding. The test supports smooth assistance, comfort and braking while identifying weight, steep-climb gearing and a small display as compromises.

A single review cannot establish fleet-wide reliability or universal range, and the one display fault should not be inflated into a pattern. Evans remains the source for the current stocked component specification.

Advantages and disadvantages

The useful comparison is whether the complete build suits the regular route, storage and service plan. A premium motor cannot compensate for poor fit, while a modest component can be entirely sensible on the right type of bike.
